The European Union (EU) has welcomed the government’s invitation to deploy an electoral observation ahead of the August 12 general elections.

The Union has contributed close to K270 million towards Zambia’s electoral process in strengthening electoral conflict prevention and response.

EU ambassador to Zambia Jacek Jankowski said the relationship between Zambia and the union is a source of stability and regional leadership in Southern Africa.

“The European Union is encouraging and supporting credible, inclusiveness and peaceful elections,’’ he said.

German Ambassador to Zambia Anne Mitchell encouraged all eligible voters to turn up in numbers and vote for their preferred candidates.

And Italian Ambassador Antonio Maggiore is confident that Zambia will carry on with its legacy of having free, fair and peaceful elections.
