The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in partnership with the European Union is implementing the Support towards operationalization of the SADC Region Agricultural Policy (STOSAR)project aimed at strengthening plant health in Zambia.

FAO Country Representative Suzzy Fillipine says the project will help to prevent and reduce the invasion of plant diseases.

Ms Filipine notes that the UN agency will always collaborate with the government in ensuring that plant diseases in Zambia are controlled in order to enhance food production.

She said this in Lusaka today, in a speech read for her by FAO Program Officer Zuba Mwanza during the pest management strategies validation and review workshop.

And the Plant Quarantine and Phytosanitary Service, Principal Plant Health inspector Mable Mudenda disclosed that Zambia through the support has developed strategies that will help to prevent and manage Tuta Absoluta and the maize lethal disease.
