Unions Nod Shelving Of Grade Seven Automatic Progression

Some Teachers Unions have welcomed the move by government to do away with the automatic progression for grade sevens to grade eight.

National Union of Public and Private Educators of Zambia (NUPPEZ) President, Victor Muyumba said this move will help improve the quality of graduates in the country.

And Secondary Schools Teachers Union of Zambia -SESTUZ- General Secretary, Sitibekiso Wamuyuwa said the development will boost the national pass rate at secondary level in schools.

On Friday, Education Minister Douglas Syakalima announced that starting this year, there will be no more automatic progression for Grade 7s.

Mr Syakalima explained that the removal of the automatic progression meant that pupils who will the exams should either repeat or do trade skills with Technical Education, Vocational and Entrepreneurship Training Authority -TEVETA. Zanis-
