Total Zambia donates K100, 000 to Nkhuwa

Total Zambia has has come to the aid of Chingola Member of Parliament Matthew Nkhuwa to rebuild the vandalised Mutenda police post.

Total Zambia Head of Retail and Digital Ernest Mfula yesterday handed over the K100, 000 cheque to Chingola Constituency Development Trust (CCDT) in Mutenda about 68 kilometres on Solwezi road.

Speaking during the donation, Mr Mfula said Total Zambia regards security as an emergency.

He said the absence of a police post was considered an emergency which needed immediate attention.

“We operate in all the 10 provinces of Zambia and our desire is to be interactive with the communities where we work from. You can count on us with such emergencies,” he said.

In receiving the cheque, CCDT Chairperson John Zgambo said Mutenda community is somehow isolated from Chingola allocated about 68 kilometres from Chingola.

“It is for this reason we want the MP to very present here and attend to the needs of the people so that they feel as close as possible. I wrote a letter on Monday this week requesting for help and today Saturday you are here to made the donation,” he said.

And Mr Nkhuwa said Mutenda Police post was vandalised the community at the time the community was faced with gassing and killing.

He said he was left without option but to get building material on credit from business houses.

“With the CCDT, our view is to deliver life changing projects to our people. Chingola Constituency is vast spreading over a distance of 90 kilometres there making difficult for me alone to meet the needs of the community.

“But with like-minded corporate entities like Total Zambia, the burden on our shoulder is made light. We have 17 wards in which we have to take development to,” he said.

Speaking at the same event Chingola Mayor Titus Tembo implored residents not to resort in destroying property.

He called on the community to protect public property because the MP may not repair it if they it damaged again.

The Mayor said Mr Nkhuwa’s hard work is the reason why corporate entities like Total Zambia are able to come on board to help deliver him to projects.
