Police in Northern Province have arrested two Headmen and two foreign Nation suspected to be witch finders and conducting a traditional practice called Kamuchapa.

The Kamuchapa practice is a practice by villagers to hunt for witches or people practicing witchcraft in the village, and when they are found they are beaten and chased away from the village.

Police Deputy Spokesperson Danny Mwale said police have been recording incidents in which people especially some foreign nationals claim to be witch finders and conduct traditional practices called Kamuchape.

Mr Mwale said police conducted an operation in Mbala aimed at combating the practice in which two headmen identified as Kapelele Emmanuel 62, of Mpande village and Samson Zulu 72, of Zambia compound were apprehended.

He said police also apprehended two Tanzanians identified as Nicolas Costa Magembe 40 and Willard Simfukwe 31.

“They are all detained in Police custody charged with various offences under the Witchcraft Act chapter 90 of the Laws of Zambia,” he said.
