Solwezi residents destroy trees planted to curb climate change

Solwezi Town Clerk Bornwell Luanga is dismayed by the destruction of trees planted along the Independence Avenue road in Solwezi.

Eng Luanga said the plants were planted to create a climate resilient environment as well as to beautify the district.

Speaking during a media briefing yesterday, Eng Luanga said plants play an important role to the environment.

He said due to the climate change, the Council had taken a deliberate step to plant many trees to lessen the impact of global warming and improve the living conditions for all.

Eng Luanga has condemned the destructive activities and called on members of the public to come forth with information for the culprits responsible for the damages caused.

He said the effort by the council to plant as many trees as possible in its development agenda is been hindered by those culprits.

Meanwhile the TC also announced that Solwezi Municipal Council had received a total of K1.6 million Constituency Development Fund (CDF).

Eng Luanga said the CDF is intended for the community driven projects.

He said the proposed projects submitted by the communities will commence as soon as all formalities are in place to ensure development.

The Town Clerk also indicated that the construction of the four community centres in Kapijimpanga, Kimasala, Sandang’ombe and Kamalamba wards have commenced with works progressing well.
The TC said that in Tumvwanganai ward, a market shelter will be constructed in place of a community centre to shield marketers trading in the open space.
