PROTUZ confirms arrest of 2 officials

The Professional Teachers Union of Zambia (PROTUZ) National Executive Committee (NEC) has confirmed the arrest of the two Union officials by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
The National Executive Committee says it is saddened to learn the arrest of its top leaders.
NEC Director Public Relations and International Affairs Brian Mwila said that the action by the ACC is a deliberate move aimed at de-campaigning PF and President Edgar Lungu by harassing Union leaders who are working to ensure that there is harmony between the Government and Civil Service.
Mr Mwila said that industrial harmony is a vital ingredient in national development and the government is working hard to achieve that.
He said the arrest of the two leaders was expected because people and the teaching fraternity know that the (PROTUZ) appeared before Parliament in December 2020 and presented a report on a number of issues in the teaching service.
“ One of the issue presented was the way in which the Teaching Service Commission had handled the matter of the dismissed teachers on account of possessing purported fake academic and professional qualifications of which 23 teachers have since been reinstated by the Commission, “he said.
Mr Mwila has called on the Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace (CCJP), Transparency International Zambia (TIZ) and others stakeholders to take keen interest in investigating the matter of dismissed teachers and avail a report to the Zambian people.
The two Union Officials have since been released on police bond.
