Mulonga Water urges residents to safe guard it’s infrastructure

Mulonga Water Supply and Sanitation Company has called on Chingola Residents to help the company serve them better by paying bills and help safe guard equipment and its infrastructure.

MWSC Communications Manager Bright Mtonga said that vandalizing of company property has become rampant and to curb this, residents should come on board and report perpetrators.

Mr Mtonga was speaking during a media tour, organized by the Company to appreciate the progress on the Zambia Water Project and some of the challenges that the company is facing.

“Residents should report the culprits as they live among them and may know them, they must also keep an eye on the infrastructure in their areas.

He said that the company loses a lot of money in replacing vandalized equipment, money which can be used for improving service and other short term measures.

“And despite sensitization programs by the company people are not only stealing metallic materials but also the new plastic pipes.,” he said.

Mr Mtonga has appealed to the Local Authority to help them when they start fitting the new pipes in the town ship as people may not allow digging in their yards.

And MWSC Acting Director Infrastructure Margaret Kalesha, said ZWSP project is an expansion program for the Chingola Treatment plant and once completed water quality and water distribution will improve.

Ms Kalesha said that the treatment plant will be expanded by 20 mega liters as Chingola is growing.

And Chingola Mayor Johnson Kang’ombe assured the company of Government support as well as helping the company to sensitize the community when they start fitting pipes.

Mr Kang’ombe commended the utility firm for the project they are undertaking and the effort been put in places to supply the district with water despite many other challenges the company has.
