Kasompe Ward Councillor Martin Lombe says that Mulonga Water Supply and Sanitation should work on the leaking sewer lines as it is posing a health risks to the community.

Mr Lombe said that his ward is also suffering from erratic supply of water.

He said the peoples cry over the sewer lines and erratic water supply is falling on dumb ears.

“This will drastically affect us on attaining the sustainable development goal number 6 on clean water and sanitation,” he said.

Mr Lombe has since called on Mulonga to come to the rescue of the community as the people may start to get infections.

The area in question is behind Pentecostal churches, the area councillor said the sewer has been an historical problem.

However, Mulonga Water, Supply and Sanitation Company Limited Public Relations Manager Bright Mtonga said the company will soon be working on historical blocked sewer pines.

Mr Mtonga said the infrastructure is very old, because the company has not major investments, meaning they require massive rehabilitation.

He said the rehabilitation is underway through the Zambia Water Sanitation project and assured residents that the leaking sewer pipes will be worked on.

Mr Mtonga also attributed the blocked sewer pipes to vandalism and careless disposal of unwanted materials in the sewer pipes.

He also called for togetherness among the residents, civic leaders and the water utility company explaining that some challenges require team work to be solved.

“We want to urge costumers and civic leaders is for them to improve on communication with us, if anyone is aggrieved there we have channels of communication that are easy to use,” he said.

Mr Mtonga also appealed to residents to desist from throwing substances like diapers in sewer pipes to avoid unnecessary blockages.
