Mr Mtonga said the contract is worth $ 1,326,613.77 and will cater for seven peri-urban areas in the company’s service area.
He said that the project is part of the Zambia Water and Sanitation Project (ZWSP) which aims to improve the company’s ability to provide services to a broader, more inclusive customer base in a sustainable manner.
“The contract is for extension of water networks to Peri-Urban areas of Chingola’s Musenga Kasumbalesa in Chililabombwe and Mufulira in Kawama East, Zimba, Murundu, Mokambo and Minambe,” he said.
He said that the project is set to be undertaken by a local Contractor Nchanga South Enterprise Limited and is funded by the European Union the flagship project of the ZWSP.
Mr Mtonga said the works will involve the supply installation and commissioning of elevated water tanks, construction of transmission mains, installation of all fittings and accessories.
“The works will also involve construction and rehabilitation of water kiosks and standpipes, construction of standpipes and installation of water meters and all accessories, construction of electrical control house supply, installation and commissioning of submersible borehole pumps and associated electromechanically installations and construction of security fence and guard house at elevated tanks and associated landscaping, “ he said.
He said that these work will also help the company achieve its mandate to extend water and sanitation services to rural areas.
“We are committed to realizing Government efforts to provide water for all citizens as expounded in the vision 2030 without leaving anyone behind. This is a massive development and we are eager to implement it diligently,” he said.
