Mopani CEO cornered as he attempt to flea the Country

Police in Lusaka have detained Mopani Copper Mines Chief Executive Officer Nathan Bullock as he attempted to flee the country via the Kenneth Kaunda International Airport.

Home Affairs Minister Stephen Kampyongo confirmed the development last evening.

The Minister also confirmed that arrangements are being made for detained Mopani CEO to be taken back to Kitwe to respond to public concerns and to the Task Force of Technocrats set up by the Ministry of Mines.

Mr Kampyongo said that Government became suspicious that Mr Bullock who attended the meeting in the morning yesterday attempted to leave the country without notifying the Zambian Authorities.

He said the onus is now on Mopani Copper Mines and Glencore to redeem themselves adding that, government will undertake all processes within the law.

Meanwhile, Government has constituted a Team of Technocrats which has set base at Mopani Copper Mines in Kitwe to collect as much information as possible in order to prepare for any eventualities.

Mines and Minerals Minister Richard Musukwa said this in Kitwe yesterday when he met four unions in the mining sector.

And the Labour Commissioner Givens Mutengwa said that, if Mopani insists to rip apart the law by abrogating the employment code act, the Ministry of Labour will invoke other provisions of the law which will mean arresting the Principal Officers at Mopani Copper Mines.
