Lusaka City Council has apprehended three people for allegedly stealing grave mark metal plates from Chunga and Leopards Hill cemeteries.
In Chunga, one person was apprehended and taken to Chunga Police Post while the other two were apprehended in Leopards Hill and were taken to Nyumba Yanga Police Post.
Lusaka City Council Public Relations Officer George Sichimba said the three were apprehended by Council workers and were found with the merchandise on them.
Mr Sichima warned the perpetrators of such acts that they will not escape the strategy that has been put in place to curb the vice.
He said the Council working with state police is now is using the suspects to help identify buyers so that them too could be apprehended if found wanting.
“Those involved in scrap metal business must make sure that the source the scrap metal they are buying is established to avoid inconveniences,” he said.
