LCC amends liquor licence procedure

By ALICE NACHILEMBE

Lusaka City Council (LCC) Legal Services Committee has amended the procedure for issuing liquor licences to over 500 applicants on the waiting list.

The decision is meant to quicken the process and offload the backlog.

LCC Public Relations Manager George Sichimba said the main differences between existing procedure and the amended one are that fees.

Mr Sichimba said the fees will be required to paid at once and the issuance of liquor licenses will precede the tour by the liquor committee.

He said this is because making payments in stages and tours by the liquor committee proved to be time consuming leading to the backlog.

Mr Sichimba said LCC is therefore appealing to Liquor Licence applicants to come forth and make payments for licences to be issued.

The amendment applies only to applicants who have been on the waiting list for sometime.

The usual procedure is as follows:
1. Filling of client information on the liquor form
2. Payment for health, fire and building inspection reports
3.Mememorandum to health and planning departments by licensing officer.
4. Health and planning departments report back to licensing officer.
5. Payment of submission fees
6. Final tour by liquor committee
7. Issuance of liquor licence.

The amended procedure will now comprise the following steps:
1. Filling of the clients information on the liquor form.
2. Payment of health, fire and building inspection reports and submission of fees at once.
3. Memorandum to health and planning departments by licensing officer.
4. Health and planning departments report back to licensing officer.
5. Issuance of the liquor licence.
6. Final tour by liquor committee.
