Mufulira residents have bemoaned the lack of mourning shelters at all grave yards in the district.

The residents have wondered why the local council has not put up mourners shelters despite receiving Burial levies.

One of the residents, Emmanuel Muma said it is a challenge to carry out Burial prossessions without mourners shelters especially in the rain season.

“Mourning shelter has been our cry as Mufulira residents, we have complained for long time and the local authority promised to put up shelters in all the burial sites but up to now nothing has been done and it is worrisome now that the rain season is fast approaching,” he said.

Another resident James Chiti said that mourner’s shelter is a serious issue which should be looked into before the rain season starts.

“A shelter is very important even in dry season, people or mourners should learn to wait for the  body in the shelter not under the trees, rain seasons makes work more difficult because sometimes mourners don’t even watch body viewing due to  heavy rains which carries away  umbrellas,” he said.

Speaking in an interview today, residents have appealed to the new government to look into the matter seriously.
