 It’s K17m for rebuilding of gutted Buteko market in Mufulira

Kantanshi PF Member of Parliament Anthony Mumba has launched the construction of Buteko modern market in Mufulira at a cost of K17 million.

On July 12, last month the market was gutted to ashes destroying the marketeers’ merchandise worthy sums of money.

Speaking during the ground breaking ceremony yesterday, Mr Mumba said Government would not only construct the modern market but also empower all the marketeers affected.

He said the gutted market was a makeshift but Government would be rebuilding a modern market to accommodate marketeers and traders.

The Law Marker said despite good will from Government, there were some politics at the market which he implored marketeers not to be associated to.

Speaking at the same function both Mufulira Mayor and District Commissioner Gift Mushinge and Hildah Kawesha respectively reassured the marketeers of firm support from to revamp their businesses.

Ms Kawesha said as the Chairperson for District Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) she would ensure all the money received from well-wishers is accounted.

She named some of the well-wishers that have contributed to the plight of empowering marketeers as Kantaship MP who contributed K50, 000, Kankoyo MP Brian Mushimba at K50, 000 and Mbwee Bus Operators at K10, 000.

And yesterday K55, 000 was contributed among them from the contractor of the market Horizon Properties K10, 000, Mufulira Wanderers Supporters club at K10, 000, Mufulira Wanderers Captain K5, 000, KCM Green K10, 00 and Diamond TV K10, 000.

She said the money was in the DMMU account waiting for some well-wishers to come on board.

Mr Mumba also handed over Malela Primary school.

One of the marketeers Mary Miti thanked Government for rebuilding the market and giving them capital to start afresh.
Horizon Properties CEO  Saul Kiwempindi said the project would executed in 10 months.
