FORMER PS SHAWA ARRESTED FOR CORRUPTION INVOLVING $2.9M

The Anti-Corruption Commission -ACC- has arrested and charged former Ministry of Agriculture Permanent Secretary Julius Shawa for corrupt practices involving over 2.9-million dollars.

Mr Shawa, 64 has been arrested and charged with one count of willful failure to comply with Applicable Law and Procedure or Guidelines Relating to Procurement.

ACC Head- Corporate Communication Timothy Moono said the cases involve the authorization of payment of 2,940,000 dollars from the Ministry of Agriculture account to Synite Quarries account.

Mr Moono said the approved payment to the said company was done without following laid down procedures as prescribed by law.

He says this happened between January 2015 and August 2018 in Lusaka while he served as Permanent Secretary.

Mr Moono said Mr Shawa has since been released on bond and will appear in Court soon.
