Chingola Municipal Council has banned eating competition in the district.

This follows the loss of life of a Grade 9 pupil who died after participating in the eating competition.

Chingola Town Clerk Kabombo Mutakela said the local authority has with immediate effect banned any competition of such nature.

Mr Mutakela said the Local Authority is deeply saddened with the manner in which the Grade 9 died.

He said members of the public should be aware that whenever they want to hold any such kind of competition within the district, a written permission has to be obtained from the authorized officers from the council.

“Furthermore, anyone intending to have a function in schools or any other public gatherings should not go ahead without a  written document authorized by officers as stipulated in regulation 9 of Public Health( infected areas) (corona virus disease 2019)( amendment) regulations 2020.

“In addition, regulations section 15 (a) and (b) under food safety Act 2019  Prohibits  handling Food without Certificate of compliance of Health Inspection or report.’ The council would therefore, like to warn the public that anyone who will be found conducting any kind of competition without authority from the council would be prosecuted,” he said.

This is according to a media statement made available to The Independent Observer by Chingola Municipal Council Public Relations Officer Believe Chisanga.
