Monze District Commissioner (DC) Cyprian Hamanyanga confirmed the death of the Chieftainess to ZANIS today.

Mr Hamanyanga said the late Chieftainess died around 02:00 hours in Kitwe where she had gone for treatment.

He stated that government has received the untimely demise of Chieftainess Choongo with deep shock and sadness.

Mr. Hamanyanga said the late Chieftainess initiated a number of developmental projects in the chiefdom saying her death was a great loss to the district and the country as a whole.

He further said arrangements were being made to transport the body to Monze district.

Mr. Hamanyanga added that the funeral programme will be released as soon as possible.

Chieftainess Choongo has died at the age of 68 and was the 16th Chief to be on the throne/ZANIS.
