Former Kitwe District Commissioner Binwell Mpundu has been duly elected as the the Nkana Constituency Member of Parliament in the just ended 12 August general elections.
Mr Mpundu who stood as independent candidate beat his closest rival Alexander Chiteme with 20,017 votes while the incumbent scored 8,927 votes.
Returning officer Rodney Banda declared Binwell Mpundu as duly elected lawmaker for the Nkana seat around 12.06 hours this afternoon amid celebrations from the members of public at Parklands Primary School.
And the United Party for National Development (UPND) candidate Christopher Mulenga has scored 8,638 votes.
Nkana Constituency residents have in the recent past accused the former Member of Parliament Mr Chiteme of not developing the area.
Nkana Constituency had a total of 39,089 votes were casted and 604 rejected as invalid.
This year’s general elections has had a good voter turn out with young people casting their votes compared to the previous elections.
