4 Chinese nabbed for illegal mining

Four Chinese nationals and one Zambian have been apprehended for allegedly defying a mining suspension order in Mkushi, Central province.

The suspects are reported to have continued mining Manganese in the district, disrespecting the order for suspension.

Mkushi District Commissioner, Jonathan Kapungwe confirmed the development when Central Province Deputy Permanent Secretary, Godfrey Chitambala called on him.

Mr Kapungwe says after the suspension, the district administration went on the ground to verify and found the suspects violating the directive.

He has explained that the illegal mining activity has resulted in the discharge of effluent into the Chibefwe River hich is the only source of water for Mkushi residents.

Mr Chitambala said government will not entertain people, who come in the guise of being investors, without respecting the law. (ZANIS)
