Chililabombwe Municipal Council has offloaded a multi-million tender for any business to develop a truck parking site along Congo road.
The move is aimed at improving road safety and public health by preventing truckers heading to Democratic Republic of Congo from parking along the road.
Chililabombwe Town Clerk Gertrude Chibiliti said the parking site would be developed under the famous ‘Design, Finance, Build, Operate and Transfer’ (DFBOT).
Ms Chibiliti said the parking site together with supporting infrastructure which would be constructed on 10 hectares of land.
She said truck drivers may drive for more than 10 consecutive hours.
“The availability of adequate parking is important if truck drivers are to obtain the rest needed to operate their vehicles safely. The parking site will offer rest, refreshments and showers for them to freshen up,” she said.
This would not be the first project executed under DFBOF in Chililabombwe; the multi-billion Kasumbalesa world class border facility was built under the same initiative.
